Shop fire A structure fire at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday on Toomes Avenue in Corning caused $100,000 damage over a 30-minute period, CalFire representatives said. A car, a boat, and a golf cart were all consumed in the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.

It is fitting that a budding new junior tournament in Joplin bears the name of Jimmy and Joan Thomas. The Thomases long have been part of Joplin’s golfing history and lore, and both have been strong supporters of junior golf.
